If I were to ask you what the strongest muscle in your body is...what would you say?
I'd answer, "My heart." And while some may argue that the heart is an organ, not a muscle, the heart does have cardiac muscle in it. So if you'll just appease me and play along...that'd be great!
By far, the strongest muscle in my body is my heart. No other muscle comes close. And that's not something that happened by accident. I am really happy to be able to say that today.
And so I want to ask you: What shape is your heart in? (and I'm not referring to its physical condition) Does your heart get a lot of use? Is it exercised every day? When is the last time you stretched your heart muscle?
Do you know what's unique about your heart, what special traits or qualities it has?
These are important questions because your heart is what connects you with other people, animals, nature, God - it is your lifeline to love. The stronger and bigger your heart becomes, the more love you can feel, experience, hold, give.
And your heart is unique to you. No one else's heart is the same as yours. You have love to give and share with the world, that is your personal flavor of love.
Confucius said, "Wherever you go, go with all your heart." Are you living this way? Or are you going with only part of your heart available (and perhaps another part protected and inaccessible to others)?
Your heart is meant to be used, expanded, stretched, filled to the brim, and bursting with love! And only you control whether you allow your heart to fill, or whether you restrict its size. How big is your heart?
Mother Teresa said, "It is not how much you do, but how much love you put into the doing, that matters." Are you maximizing the love in your everyday 'doing'? And if not, what's holding you back?
There is so much to gain from opening up your heart to others, letting them love you, and allowing yourself to be vulnerable and known, seen and noticed. If you haven't fully opened your heart yet, I encourage you to try it.
Yes, sometimes we can get hurt when we open our hearts fully - but those experiences are like the wind for the trees - making us stronger, more resilient, and better able to love even deeper the next time.
By getting in touch with the unique qualities of your heart, engaging it in your everyday 'doing', allowing it to expand and stretch to an even bigger size, and opening it fully to embrace love (in all its manifestations), you will live a happier, more love-filled life - a heartfelt life.
Let your heart become the strongest muscle in your body - you won't regret it.
