This relationship advice for women is something that many women and men struggle with. In any relationship, for some reason, only one member wants to talk about the relationship. The other person doesn't want to talk about it or doesn't think about it much. It's crucial to the development of the relationship to talk about it, but that could just be me (I'm the person who talks about the relationship with my wife, me being the psychologist and all). Having said that, my wife has become more and more open to the idea of discussing our relationship recently. Here are three ways she talks about it openly with me.
1. Talk About Someone Else
This is probably the most common way to segue into talking about your own relationship. Simply start off by talking about your friends and what they're going through. Maybe they're going through a rough patch of their own.
Gradually, you can transition into your own relationship by saying something like, "see, that's where our relationship works out. We don't have that problem. Not to say ours isn't perfect..." this makes it more natural to talk about your own relationship.
2. Don't Scare Us
This is another reason why the man (or the woman, if the man is the one who likes talking about relationships) usually doesn't like talking about relationships. When the woman talks about it, the man usually thinks that he's in trouble in some way or another.
Simply give us a heads up before hand and let us know that you just want to talk. By letting us know, you're doing us a favour and helping us relax. We don't want to defend ourselves and you don't either. Our answers will probably be faker that way too.
3. Time And A Place
The best way to talk about relationships is do it when we don't feel trapped or when we're relaxed. For example, talk about it with us when we're relaxed in bed. Or, talk about it when we're out and about, taking a stroll.
You don't want to do something out of the ordinary then spring these questions on us. That will make us feel trapped and we'll learn for next time.
This relationship advice for women will help you if you think that you have some trouble getting through to your man when you're talking about relationship problems. It has to be done and by focusing on other people first, not scaring us and talking to us at the right place, we'll be happy to talk with you about us.
